Meshcut
Meshcut is the solo project of Meshkat Mosavat, an Iranian non-binary singer, songwriter and music producer based in Paris.
Their artistic journey began in Tehran, within the city’s underground music scene, where they found a way to create and perform music outside the boundaries of the mainstream. In 2020, Meshcut co-founded Stereotype, an electronic rock and synthwave duo with Xeen. Together, they developed a sound that brought together dark electronic textures, rock, experimental production and a distinctly underground energy.
Stereotype became the beginning of Meshcut’s international journey. In a context where independent musicians faced significant restrictions, the duo gradually built connections beyond Iran and began performing internationally. Their first European performance took place in Berlin at Tehran Contemporary Sound, marking a turning point in Meshcut’s artistic life and opening the door to a new chapter between Iran and Europe.
For Meshcut, songwriting is a form of freedome.
As Meshcut, they moved further into cold wave and darkwave creating a sound that is darker, more intimate and deeply personal. Their music is shaped by the experience of moving between countries and identities, and by the constant process of reconstructing a sense of self in unfamiliar places.
Meshcut is an ongoing process of becoming — transforming experience into sound, sound into identity, and identity into freedom.
Their songs emerge from lived experiences — displacement, identity, desire, loneliness, resistance, love, loss and transformation. Rather than simply documenting these experiences, Meshcut uses music to reshape them: turning vulnerability into strength, uncertainty into movement, and experiences that once felt isolating into something that can be shared.
The idea of the forbidden voice remains at the heart of their artistic world. Coming from a scene where simply making certain kinds of music could be an act of defiance, Meshcut learned to see art as a space where limitations could be challenged and identities could exist without permission.
Their debut solo album, REBIRTH, released in 2025, represents one of the clearest expressions of this transformation. The album explores the moment of leaving behind an old version of yourself while carrying everything that shaped you forward. Its hypnotic electronic landscapes, visceral vocals and emotionally charged songwriting move between darkness and hope, destruction and renewal.
Paris has since become the place from which Meshcut continues to expand their artistic universe. Their work increasingly exists at the intersection of music, performance and visual art, with live shows that combine electronic production, vocals and a strong physical and visual presence.
Alongside their solo work, Meshcut continues to collaborate with musicians, producers and artists across Europe. Their ongoing creative relationship with composer and producer Christine Guin / Oui Future has played an important role in developing their contemporary electronic sound, while new projects continue to push their music toward darker, more experimental and more visceral territory.
From Tehran’s underground scene to their first European stage in Berlin, and from Istanbul to Paris, Meshcut’s story is one of constant movement and reinvention.
They are not interested in remaining fixed within a single genre, place or definition.
